Cosmetic Surgery is a Worldwide Epidemic Essay - 471 Words

Everywhere you look; from billboards to TV the effects of plastic surgery have left its mark. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, a famous music icon passed, and for a whole week all the media did was talk about the plastic surgery done to his face. These days’ people are having rhinoplasty, liposuction, tummy tucks, face lifts, and most commonly breast augmentation. Science is making it easier to change the appearance of ones self. This brings me to believe, cosmetic surgery is an epidemic that has affected the whole world. A while back on a popular morning show, the host was interviewing a guest star. Then the host brings up that the guest star has had a breast augmentation. Then the guest star looks at him, and says, â€Å"Everybody’s doing†¦show more content†¦Adults with big money have been the ones affected the most with these celebrity trends. However, teenager girls have been affected more than they should. Instead of a parent telling the teenager they look beautiful, no matter how many minor imperfections they have. Most parents are shockingly giving their teenagers liposuction as birthday presents. Instead of loosing weight in a healthy way with diet and exercise, these teens are going under anesthesia. Most teenagers after the surgery have scars left on their body, which never heal. In todays world, many people are confused about their gender. This has led numerous people to plastic surgery. A countless number of them feel the only way to truly be themselves is through gettin g a sex transformation. Even though many of them get the surgery on the down low, the effects from the surgery eventually come to light. On the Jerry Springer show, a number of episodes involved the audience guessing what the gender of the person was before they underwent surgery. It’s sad to say, that the majority of the women on the show were originally men. The expenses of buying a whole new lifestyle, the emotional drainage they are likely to face, and the periods of physical pain in hormonal change all are factors they deal with after plastic surgery. Whether broadcasted through media or magazines plastic surgery interest everyone, I truly believe Hollywood is addicted to it. I believe that the media projects imagesShow MoreRelatedIs Cosmetic Surgery Becoming Too Normalized?1043 Words   |  5 Pagesmeans cosmetic surgery. Confession free essay sample

You’ve never stood in a crowded admissions office after touring five colleges in three days, have you? So, I was bored. I was sleep-deprived. And maybe it was not the most super mature thing to do, but it’s not as if anyone consciously noticed. I admit it, I was not standing there with my hands folded, awaiting directions. Or rather, that was not all I was doing. I was yawning. Yes, I know, the eighth of the Seven Deadly College Tour Sins. Horror of horrors. But I was bored. And you know that show on TV with the guy with the mustache who does science experiments? Well, he did one to test whether yawns were contagious. And standing there, feeling oh-so-small in this great big building that looked as if it had grown out of the ground, a building that was so sure when I was so completely unsure, I needed to do something. I had to. Standing there, I had to effect change, remind myself that I could still influence people, even in this room of paneling and bookcases where I was, at best, â€Å"nothing special.† So I did it. I take full responsibility. I yawned. And the guy with the mustache was right. Two girls who could kill me on a field hockey field, one guy who could write a better term paper than me, two parents who would put the proud bumper sticker on their cars, and one admissions officer yawned. Sometimes you just have to remind yourself that you exist.
